Location: Oakville ON- Hybrid (3 days in office)

Compensation: $73K+ (CDN)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting both Finance and Sales through the Trade Promotion process, this role blends both Financial Accounting and Commercial Finance elements supporting the technical and commercial needs of the teams
  • Review, process and validate discounts, rebates and trade related promotions based on customer agreements
  • Work with sales to understand ongoing trade activity to ensure trade accruals are complete and accurate
  • Upload Trade spend promotions to the customer promotions management system to ensure discounts are applied in a timely manner to invoices, or included in monthly accruals and reporting
  • Prepare Month End closing entries related to Trade Spend, Shortages and Compliance Fees
  • Reconcile trade spend accounts and investigate discrepancies related to deductions received; responsible for the timely update of accruals based on deductions received or pending
  • Prepare monthly analytical reporting and reconciliations of Trade Spend accruals to Management
  • Lead the value added post promotional analysis for the business, to understand effectiveness of spend against trade programs (ROI analysis)
  • Provide recommendations for future promotional activity based on historic findings and learnings using a data-based approach
  • Review and analyze POS data and consumer patterns as related to Trade Promotions
  • Assist Sales with the Budget and planning processes each Quarter to ensure promotional activity is appropriately planned and captured
  • Consistent coordination and communication with the Commercial Finance and Sales team through daily interaction, as well as Monthly review meetings, to ensure all promotional activities for the period are captured and accounted for in the financial statements (completeness of Trade Spend), and Balance Sheet accruals are reviewed
  • Work with the Accounts Receivable (“AR”) team to ensure deductions are properly applied to promotion accruals and follow-up with AR Coordinator, Sales Analyst or Sales teams as required to ensure deductions are cleared appropriately on a timely basis
  • Analysis and tracking of all Deductions, including Trade Deduction as well as Customer logistic claims and related accruals
  • Assist in monitoring the price mismatch process and ensure pricing variances are resolved within the timeline required, working with Customer Service, OPS, AR, Sales and Marketing
  • Assist with routine claims and chargebacks for both trade and logistics related claims
  • Back up for Master Data administration of customers and Vendors in Microsoft Dynamics 365
  • Understand and ensure role related policies and procedures are adhered to
  • Work with the Trade Spend Manager to provide process improvements within areas of responsibility and actively participate in new system implementations and upgrades planned
  • Other role related duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • CPA or other related professional designation or working towards completion would be an asset
  • Advanced level Excel skills
  • Accounting background and accrual management required
  • Ability to meet tight timelines and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with system upgrades and implementations
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong understanding of financial statements
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical skills
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize
  • 3 – 5 years of experience within finance with 2 -3 years directly within Trade Spend and Master Data would be an asset
  • Consumer Packaged Goods industry experience would be an asset
  • Experience working with large ERP and/or CRM applications would be an asset
