Accountabilities:

General Accountabilities

  • Act as the main representative for the Company on all tax related matters, including preparing all filing and compliance with statutory requirements, liaising with the business on various projects and providing tax guidance and advice as applicable in coordination with the VP, Finance
  • Responsible for all aspects of Taxation including tax accounting, reporting, planning, compliance, forecasting and payments across all jurisdictions for the company
  • Develop positive and collaborative working relationships within Finance and across the organization with a strong collaborative outlook
  • Manage the overall budget for tax related work and engagement with external advisors 

Tax Compliance

  • Preparation of all Canadian legal entity federal and provincial tax returns (includes preparation of T2s, T1134s, T106s, T2057s, Excise Tax Return, etc.) for various legal entities
  • Calculate quarterly & monthly Canadian and U.S. tax provisions
  • Preparation of Canadian HST and global VAT Returns
  • Preparation of US Federal and state corporate tax returns
  • Preparation of US 1099-Misc tax slips, FBAR reporting
  • Coordinate and review the preparation of US Sales and Use Tax Returns for various states by external advisors
  • Coordination of US resale/exemption certificates and W-9s
  • Manage external tax advisor relationships and act as the key liaison for all tax related matters
  • Assist with SR&ED claim prepared by external tax advisors
  • Act as the main representative for the company on tax audits
  • Lead the annual financial statement audit specifically for the income tax provision and financial statement tax note disclosures in accordance with IFRS 

Tax Planning, Strategy and Special Projects

  • Research and monitor tax developments as it impacts the organization and keeping management apprised of upcoming changes
  • Working with our external advisors, lead the tax planning and optimization for the organization
  • Identify and mitigate tax risks, working to maintain a robust tax control framework
  • Significant opportunities to work with various business units across the organization on special projects, including launching local entities and exploring tax obligations and planning in various global jurisdictions with support from external advisors as required
  • Responsible for tax questions and research from the business, providing recommended solutions
  • Analysis of international transfer pricing transactions and assist external advisors with transfer pricing documentation
  • Other ad-hoc projects as they arise

Experience & Skillset:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) or equivalent designation
  • Completion of levels 1 and 2 of the In-Depth Tax Course
  • 5 years of tax and/or management experience preferably within a consumer packaged goods environment
  • Knowledge of legislation, statutory requirements e. Income Tax Act, IFRS
  • Knowledge of Canadian, US and preferably International tax
  • Experience in preparing Canadian corporate tax returns through Taxprep
  • Experience in preparing US corporate tax returns would be strongly considered an asset as well as knowledge of OneSource
  • Experience in tax planning consistent with business objectives
  • Experience dealing with tax authorities regarding audit situations
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite
  • Experience working with large ERP system is required
  • Proactive and able to continuously manage change in an extremely fast paced, energetic work environment
  • Outstanding communication, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Experience in coordination and preparation of SR&ED tax incentives would be considered an asset
