Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for accounting, reconciliation and analysis of various General Ledger (GL) accounts to ensure accuracy, and proactively and effectively identify and report on variances
  • Actively facilitate month-end close process and month-end analysis for various accounts, including preparation and posting of journal entries
  • Responsible for accounting, reconciliation, and analysis of various supporting schedules; these may include commitments, capital and operating leases, capital assets and intangible assets, investments, and other
  • Responsible for accounting for SG&A and/or marketing spend including variance analysis, which requires a high degree of interaction with various teams across the business
  • Responsible for the accounting and analysis of cost of goods sold, inventory valuations including obsolescence provision accounting, purchase price variance, freight and warehousing costs, etc.
  • Assist with gross margin and profitability analysis for key brands
  • Assist with preparation of reporting package to parent company and internal and external IFRS consolidated and standalone legal entity financial statements and note disclosures thereto, including the review and preparation of related supplemental schedules
  • Assist in gathering and review of monthly, quarterly and annual information for external reporting, audits, reviews and tax compliance
  • Perform technical IFRS accounting analysis and provide recommendations for complex accounting areas
  • Lead various projects, including but not limited to implementation of improved management reporting and related tools, development of reports and dashboards to assist the organization with understanding financial information, IFRS analysis of implications related to new initiatives across the business, etc.
  • Provide recommendations and assistance with the implementation / improvement of internal controls and processes where required
  • Provide recommendations and assistance with the implementation of continuous improvements to increase productivity and efficiency within the Finance team as well as across the business
  • Work closely with other functional areas including but not limited to Operations, Marketing, Treasury, Tax, Accounts Payable, etc.
  • Participation in other financial reporting projects as required
  • Other ad hoc duties and reporting where necessary

Experience & Skillset:

  • CPA (CA, CGA or CMA) designation
  • 4+ years of accounting experience, preferably from a mid-size to large accounting firm and/or within a publicly traded consumer packaged goods environment
  • Strong working knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Experience working with a large ERP system
  • Complete understanding of a full GL closing process and experience with accounting for multiple legal entities and/or business combinations that require consolidation
  • Proactive and able to continuously manage change in a fast paced, energetic work environment
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite with advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with MS Dynamics 365 is considered an asset
  • Experience with system implementations is considered an asset
  • Proficiency in Mandarin business level communication (written and speaking) is considered an asset
  • Work experience in China is considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of People’s Republic of China (PRC) GAAP reporting requirements is considered an asset
